Borealis for public usage?

When will Borealis again be available to the public?

Hi @_risto ,

We don’t have plans of making Borealis available again. We’re working on our next generation of quantum computers so for now only X8 is available on Xanadu Cloud under request.

That being said, if you’re interested in learning about Borealis I can share some resources for that, or if you’re interested in learning about PennyLane I can share info on that too!

do you have an eta when next generation will be available for public or getting some private testing?

Seems Atom computing might be catching up and starting to take over the optical qubit race. Im team xanadu so hope to hear some good news please

Hi @qbit01, welcome to the Forum!

It’s great to hear that you’re team Xanadu

As far as I know Atom computing uses neutral atoms so it’s a different technology.
And it’s actually great to hear that others are doing well on this space! We all benefit from having powerful quantum computers, software, and algorithms.

I personally don’t know about Atom’s recent work but if they’re giving you the right tools for your research then that’s great.

At Xanadu we have two main areas of focus. On one hand our hardware team is laser-focused on making a next-generation quantum computer. On the other hand we’re working on the algorithms that will power intermediate-scale quantum applications, and the software stack needed to run these algorithms. There’s a lot of work to do! So it’s not as much a race, it’s more like parallel marathons on everything that’s needed to run useful applications in the future.

Appreciate your reply, Is there a eta for when access will be available? How far is the engineering team from finishing the first prototype that is useable? What is the estimated size for the first prototype? I have seen from some resources that it will be rather modular to be able to stack or run parrell devices with connected qubits. What is the aim for number of physical qubits? What is the estimated cost for the device? Just a few questions I have if you don’t mind answering.

Hi @qbit01 ,

Most of the answers to your questions are confidential, or I don’t have the answer at the moment. I can tell you that our goal isn’t to sell our devices, it’s to build a quantum datacenter that can be accessed via the Cloud. So cost of a whole device isn’t really a question.

The next devices that will be accessible via the Cloud will probably take a few years. I don’t know how many years exactly, this is just an educated guess. It’s important to keep in mind that offering systems via the cloud requires time and effort and at the moment we’re concentrating all efforts on working on our devices.
