One should be cautious with drawing too close parallels between photonic/CV models and the qubit model. You can read more about the two approaches here.
However, a similar photonic approach to generate entanglement is called two mode squeezing, and consists of performing squeezing on the two input modes followed by application of a beamsplitter.
